As solar photovoltaics continue to expand across Europe, the number of internet-connected PV installations is also growing, bringing new cybersecurity challenges. A new report by the Cybersecurity Subgroup of the Smart Energy Expert Group examines the risks associated with connected PV installations and their potential impact on the cybersecurity and resilience of the European electricity grid.

We are pleased that our colleague Erika Langerová contributed to the report as a co-author, bringing expertise in cybersecurity and resilience from the Competence Centre for Resilience at CTU UCEEB to this important European discussion.

The report:

  • Identifies key cyber threat scenarios for different types of PV installations
  • Assesses their likelihood and potential impacts
  • Provides recommendations for mitigating the identified risks
  • Analyses the existing EU legislative framework and proposes measures to further strengthen cybersecurity in the solar energy sector

As Europe continues its transition towards a more decentralised and digitalised energy system, ensuring that renewable energy infrastructure is not only sustainable but also secure and resilient will become increasingly important.
