Global Sustainable Built Environment Conference WSBE 2028 Coming to Prague

News, 16. 6. 2026

In 2028, Prague will become the venue for one of the world's most significant conferences focused on sustainable buildings and cities. The organizers of the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference (WSBE) series have decided that the next edition of the conference will be hosted by the Czech Technical University’s University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings (UCEEB).

The decision was announced during this year's WSBE 2026 conference in Melbourne, Australia. For UCEEB, securing the right to host the conference represents a major international recognition of its long-standing research and professional achievements in sustainable construction, building energy performance, and urban development.

WSBE 2028 will bring researchers, designers, developers, representatives of public authorities, international organizations, and the private sector from around the world to Prague.

"We are bringing home from Melbourne not only inspiration and new contacts, but also a great deal of trust and responsibility. We are delighted that Prague will be the place where, in two years' time, the global community dedicated to sustainable construction and the future of our cities and buildings will come together," says Martin Volf, Head of the Architecture and Environment Research Department at CTU UCEEB.

The conference will build on the current international discussion on how to further advance sustainability principles in the construction sector. In addition to technical solutions, methodologies, digital tools, and examples of good practice, it will also address broader questions concerning the future of the building sector in a time of climatic, economic, and societal change.

The importance of these topics is growing in connection with the approaching year 2030, a key milestone for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Buildings and the built environment have a profound impact on the climate, energy and material consumption, housing affordability, the quality of public spaces, urban resilience, and the lives of citizens. This is why it is essential for the building sector to have a strong voice in the international debate on the future direction of sustainable development.
