Ing. Václav Novotný, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor and researcher at Czech Technical University in Prague, working at the intersection of thermal energy conversion, energy storage and system integration. His research aims to make power and heat supply more flexible, efficient and sustainable, with a particular focus on Carnot batteries, high-temperature thermal energy storage, industrial energy systems and the repurposing of existing power and CHP infrastructure.

His earlier work involved the development of organic Rankine cycle (ORC) microcogeneration systems, expanders and innovative waste heat recovery technologies. He holds dual Ph.D. degrees from CTU and National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, and spent two years at Idaho National Laboratory, USA, researching flexible nuclear energy systems and industrial cogeneration.

His work combines thermodynamic modelling and techno-economic optimisation with hands-on engineering, experimental development and system validation.
