Josef Haber is a researcher in the Modern Energy Systems team at CTU UCEEB, where he has been working since 2019. His focus is on energy flexibility - particularly smart control of building systems and the impact of regulatory and market measures on their economics and day-to-day operation. He contributes to the development of flexibility control methods, the integration of CO₂ signals into operational strategies, and participatory mechanisms in the field of community energy. Within the team, he is also engaged in data analysis and the interpretation of operational data, especially in evaluating the effects of implemented measures. His work connects emerging technical solutions with the motivations of actors involved in activating building energy flexibility, aiming to understand and harness the potential of buildings within the broader systemic structure of the energy grid.

He earned his master’s degree in 2020 from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, with a focus on Buildings and Environment. His diploma project received the Professor Bechyně Award for the best thesis in the field of building design, awarded as the top graduation work across the faculty that year. In 2024, he completed a second master’s degree in journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, focusing on data journalism and artificial intelligence. This interdisciplinary background reflects his belief that the solutions to the key challenges of the 21st century lie not only in technical disciplines, but increasingly in the humanities. The real challenge today is not technical implementation alone, but the meaningful communication and integration of technologies into the social realities in which they are meant to operate.
