Documentary Film Buildings with the Scent of Wood

News, 16. 1. 2026

In the past year, CTU UCEEB took part in the creation of the documentary film Buildings with the Scent of Wood, which demonstrates why wood is one of the most sustainable and healthiest construction materials of today. The film presents inspiring examples of modern timber buildings in the Czech Republic and highlights their environmental, economic, and architectural benefits.

The ceremonial pre-premiere and official launch of the film took place on 15 January 2026. The event was also attended by Antonín Lupíšek, Director for Science and Research at CTU UCEEB.

Wood has been an integral part of the Czech landscape and construction tradition for centuries, and its importance is now growing once again – particularly due to its sustainability, positive impact on indoor environments, and high aesthetic value. The documentary follows the journey of wood from forest management to contemporary architecture and showcases a range of completed projects across the Czech Republic.

Viewers are guided through the entire process – from timber production in Czech forests, through processing into sawn timber, manufacturing of CLT panels, KVH and BSH elements, to prefabrication and construction of family houses, recreational buildings, public facilities, and multi-storey timber buildings. Featured projects include an administrative building in Brumov-Bylnice, timber retail buildings in Hrádek u Rokycan and Ždírec nad Doubravou, a residential apartment building in Žďár nad Sázavou, as well as several school buildings. Scientists, manufacturers, investors, and users describe wood as a strong, aesthetic, and health-friendly material.

The film also addresses technical topics frequently raised by the public, such as fire safety, acoustics, moisture performance, insurance, and testing methods – many of which are carried out at CTU UCEEB. The documentary was created thanks to extensive cooperation with partners who provided expert knowledge, locations, and technological support.

Premiere of the film will take place on 25 January 2026 at 11:00 PM, with a repeat broadcast scheduled for 28 January 2026 at 4:45 PM on PRIMA ZOOM.
