Methodology dedicated to the sustainable management of rainwater in the urban environment – this is the recently completed result of a two-year collaboration between the University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings of the Czech Technical University and the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, which is freely available for download to all interested parties .
The publication entitled Water in the city: Methodology for rainwater management in connection with green infrastructure guides city officials through the preparation, planning, implementation and maintenance of rainwater management (SWM) measures in connection with blue and green infrastructure.
Due to increasingly frequent manifestations of climate change, when longer periods of drought and torrential rainfall alternate, not only the academic sphere, but also representatives of local government, state administration and the general public are aware of the need to better manage rainwater - to allow it to soak in at the point of its impact, after retain it for a certain period of time and then use it for watering vegetation or sprinkling streets on hot summer days. In cities, however, we still encounter an old-fashioned view that considers rainwater as a problem that needs to be solved as quickly as possible by diverting it from the given environment.
The certified methodology is intended for city representatives who want to manage rainwater more sustainably and use this approach to support other city systems. It helps to orient oneself in the individual more technical and nature-friendly HDV measures, describes their procedural flow from permit to maintenance and points to the positive effects of HDV measures and the blue and green infrastructure system on the scale of the entire city and individual public spaces.
