EWA wins Future Forces Innovation Awards 2024

The international exhibition Future Forces 2024 took place at the Letnany Exhibition Centre in Prague, where CTU was a partner for science and research. The company Karbox, which is one of the leading Czech manufacturers of containers, container and box bodies, exhibited, among other things, mobile system EWA (Emergency Water from Air). This is the third generation of a family of systems for obtaining drinking water from extremely dry desert air, developed by scientists from CTU UCEEB. Thanks to its ability to produce tens of litres of water per day even in the most hostile climatic conditions, the EWA won the award for the best innovative product or solution at the exhibition.
   
With a stable electricity supply, the EWA produces up to 35 litres of water per day on average in a desert environment. Of course, it can also be operated in areas with wetter climates, where it is capable of producing up to twice as much water per day. We first tested the prototype for six months in our laboratories in Bustehrad, where we simulated desert climate conditions. We successfully conducted a rigorous test in 2023 in the very dry Australian outback. By winning the prestigious award, EWA followed its sister technology S.A.W.E.R., which produced water from desert air for the Czech national exposition at the EXPO 2020 in Dubai, where it also won the award for best innovation.

Future Forces is an international exhibition of the latest technologies in the field of defence and security organised in cooperation with government institutions, international organisations and NATO structures. The exhibition is part of the FUTURE FORCES FORUM project, which includes conferences, panel discussions, workshops, bilateral meetings and other networking activities. It also includes regular official meetings of working groups from NATO and the EU, whose members are actively involved in the programme. All events are aimed at showcasing current and future security needs and at demonstrating the capabilities of industry, science and development to deliver appropriate solutions and technologies to users.
