Optimising heat, cooling and electricity supply in the PPF Gate building

The Renewable Energy Research Team as the part of the Building Energy Systems Department of the CTU UCEEB is working on an analysis of alternative measures for the PPF Gate building in Prague 6, including an assessment of their contribution to energy or operational savings in the area of space heating, cooling and electricity supply. The results of the analysis are supplemented with economic indicators to serve as a basis for evaluating the economic efficiency and feasibility of the individual proposed measures, which will play a crucial role in the decision-making process of the building owner, the PPF GATE joint stock company.

The measures relate in particular to the possibility of using different shading systems, installing a new cooling unit or using a freecooling system. The analysis also includes a dynamic simulation of the building's operational behaviour by means of a computer model that considers account the occupancy profiles of each zone, i.e. occupancy in time, lighting and internal gains.

The simulation model is calibrated based on actual energy consumption in specific years so that the evaluation of savings is made on a realistic basis. The simulation of the building's power and energy needs for heating and cooling is performed with hourly time steps.
