UCEEB at CVUT presented its research on energy storage and modern district heating at Purdue University

Jan Špale and Aaron Farha from the INTENS team presented the results of their work at the 2026 Herrick Conference at Purdue, held on 12–16 July 2026 at Purdue University in the USA. Jan Špale presented a paper on the SYNERGYS project, an emerging research infrastructure in Litoměřice focused on integrating geothermal energy, solar technologies, heat pumps, seasonal thermal energy storage, and low-temperature district heating networks.

Aaron Farha, a Ph.D. student at Purdue University who completed a research internship with the INTENS team in 2025, also presented at the conference. In his paper, he introduced the development of a predictive control system for high-temperature packed bed thermal energy storage. The work focused on optimizing the charging and discharging of the storage system based on the availability of photovoltaic power generation, electricity prices, and the required heat demand.

The Herrick Conference, organized by Purdue University, has been held for more than 50 years and is one of the leading professional events in the fields of HVAC, heat pumps, refrigerants, compressors, and building energy systems. Every two years, it attracts hundreds of experts from academia and industry.
