We are looking for solutions to net zero greenhouse gas emissions from buildings

News, 15. 12. 2023
The Sustainable building research team at CTU UCEEB is involved in a project focusing on measures leading to the practical achievement of net zero greenhouse gas emissions from buildings over their entire life cycle, which is being carried out within the framework of the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme (EBC).

The project, entitled Annex 89 - Ways to Implement Net-zero Whole Life Carbon Buildings, kicked off with a meeting at Aalborg University in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 19 and 20 October 2023, where our representatives were of course present. From the beginning, we are thus involved in developing harmonised methodologies and recommendations for decision-makers and other key stakeholders in the European building sector, so that they are able not only to set conditions and targets for reducing the carbon footprint of the building sector throughout its life cycle, but also to put them into practice effectively and evaluate their implementation.

Through our participation in this project, we will also deepen our knowledge of net zero carbon buildings, which we will use in the context of the implementation of the new comming European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), which foresees, among other things, the mandatory quantification of the carbon footprint of buildings throughout their life cycle from 2027.
