We tried ceiling beams for Alza

News, 21/05/2020

The CTU University Center for Energy Efficient Buildings participated in load tests at the headquarters of the largest Czech e-shop Alza.cz in Prague's Holešovice. The goal was to determine the highest possible load on the thirty-year-old ceiling beams and to issue a recommendation under which conditions it would be possible to add another floor to the existing building.

Experts from the Laboratory of Electronic Systems and Diagnostics of the Czech Technical University UCEEB collaborated with the companies Safibra, Ateliér Okulet and Červenka Consulting on tests of two selected ceiling beams, which were subjected to controlled gradual loading of up to 35 tons. A total of seven different technologies were used to map and evaluate the behavior of the tested beams. A comprehensive comparison of data from all measurement methods was followed by their interpretation and formulation of the resulting recommendation for the client. We specifically participated in the application of FBG (Fibre Bragg Grating) sensors and procured strainometric measurements.
