UCEEB CTU invites architects, designers, technical specialists, and construction firms to a professional training course focused
on the practical use of wood and other natural materials in modern construction. Participants will gain up-to-date research
insights, practical experience, and concrete technical solutions—free from marketing or sales pitches.
Wood is rapidly becoming a mainstream material for both residential and public buildings. However, the quality, safety, and
long-term performance of timber structures depend heavily on properly designed structural details, fire safety, acoustics,
moisture management, and construction execution. This training will help participants understand the potential and limitations
of wood, enabling them to work with the material competently and confidently.
The program combines current research from UCEEB CTU with practical experience from design and construction. The course will
be led by Michal Bureš, Kamil Staněk, and Petr Hejtmánek, all of whom contributed to the new version of the ČSN 73 0802
standard for timber structures. This educational event is part of the ČKAIT lifelong learning program and carries one credit
point.
Participants will learn about fire safety in timber buildings, proper structural design, noise transmission control, moisture
and condensation issues, structural wood protection, and principles for ensuring the service life and durability of timber
structures. Attention will also be paid to critical construction details where errors most frequently occur. Using specific
examples, experts will demonstrate the connections between design and execution, as well as flaws that can be prevented before
they lead to warranty claims, additional work, or significant financial losses. No prior advanced experience with timber construction
is required for the training.
