We have opened a sustainability office

The Green Deal for Europe also implies stricter requirements for ESG reporting. While universities are not directly affected, they should take their social responsibility seriously if they want to remain lucrative partners for companies and international projects, or if they want to feature in the QS World Ranking, which last year also included sustainability as a mandatory part of its ranking. Therefore, this year CTU established a sustainability office, headed by Kateřina Klepačová and Barbora Hejtmánková from UCEEB.

The establishment of the Sustainability Office was a follow-up to the inter-university project Unilead I+II, in which 24 Czech universities collaborated on activities to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. Last year, CTU also participated in the European Sustainability Week (ETUR) through a questionnaire sent to all units. More than 84% of student respondents (and 85% of staff) considered it important for the university to engage in sustainability.

The Office of Sustainability has been working this year to link cross-faculty communication and collaboration. The website www.udrzitelnost.cvut.cz has been created and one of our main goals is to create a Sustainable Development Strategy for the CTU in Prague, which we are preparing in a unique way, in a participatory way. A total of fifteen research teams are working on it, each responsible for one of the key areas of the strategy. By the end of this year, the final version will be completed and presented, which will serve as a guideline for future actions and decisions of our university in the field of sustainability.
