A total of twenty students and pupils from ten Karviná secondary and primary schools participated in seminars focused on
reducing building energy consumption by implementing renewable energy sources in municipal buildings. Seminars were prepared
by experts from the CTU UCEEB in cooperation with the Statutory City of Karviná within the framework of the international
project ARV - Climate Positive Circular Communities (CPCC).
The aim of the seminars was to broaden the knowledge of young people in the fields of energy and sustainability. Pupils of
the last year of primary and secondary school students got the task of designing a photovoltaic system on the roofs of three
selected buildings in Karviná using a special program. They had to consider both the technical and economic aspects of the
proposed system. They had to present their designs in short presentations.
According to Robert Wawerka, Head of the Research Department for Monitoring and Control of Intelligent Buildings at the CTU UCEEB, all
the participants were successful in their task: "They had to design a photovoltaic system for the selected buildings in order
to reduce their energy consumption. They had to deal with many obstacles, such as the height of the surrounding buildings
or the greenery in place."
The awards were therefore given to all of them and the three best schools received extra prizes. The Karviná Gymnasium came
third, the Prameny Primary School came second and the U Lesa Primary School came first. Next year we would like to organise
again a similar challenge for young people with a theme related to energy and sustainability.
