Circular Building

Research team
Our mission is to support the implementation of circular economy principles in the construction industry in order to reduce the material demand and environmental impact of this sector. That's why we are creating new procedures for waste prevention in the construction industry. We develop technologies for recycling various types of waste for subsequent use in the construction industry. We are looking for new opportunities to maximise the value of materials and products.

We develop a pre-demolition audit and selective deconstruction procedures and digital tools to facilitate them. We assess the environmental impacts associated with the end-of-life of a building and the management of construction and demolition waste and connect key stakeholders to reuse these materials.

We deal with a circular design of buildings. We guide investors of new buildings on how to create material banks from their buildings. We develop tools to evaluate circular design and assess the environmental impact savings of using circular strategies in building design.

MAIN TEAM ACTIVITIES

  • Pre-demolition building audit: We process pre-demolition building audits and selective deconstruction process descriptions. We look for the most efficient ways to dispose of building materials in a way that reduces costs and environmental impacts. We communicate with industry experts and our experience has led to the development of a methodology for pre-demolition audits.
  • Circular design: We can modify the building design to be more circular. We provide consultancy and can evaluate the circular design of the building on the basis of available certification tools and standards.
  • Education: Our experiences from pre-demolition audits and circular building design are passed on the Recycling Academy course. We follow the development of relevant legislation and policy documents.
  • Networking: We look for opportunities for collaboration between demolition experts, recyclers, waste processors and manufacturers of new building products.
  • Digitization: We develop digital tools to support the circular economy. We create a tool to simplify pre-demolition audits. We working together to create a material cadastre of Prague.
  • Consulting for public administration: We work together on the development of standards for pre-demolition audits and testing materials from demolitions. We develop guides to support the use of waste and secondary raw materials in the construction industry and regional analyses of the effective use of secondary raw materials and local infrastructure for recycling and reuse of products.
