Modern energy

Research team
The Modern Energy Research Team is an international interdisciplinary team that focuses on the development of decentralised, digitized and flexible energy systems for buildings and energy complexes, with an emphasis on community and cross-sector solutions.

We focus on numerical modelling and data analysis of building-energy network interaction, on the development of prediction services in building energy, and on the development of innovative tools for optimising the planning and operation of the energy system as a whole using building simulation, machine learning and artificial intelligence. We also offer consulting on the technical readiness of buildings and city districts for community solutions and exploring the impacts of new business models and legislation focused on demand response of consumption to grid demand, particularly short-term market response and aggregation flexibility in the buildings sector.

Our team has many years of experience in dealing with contract, national and international research projects. We are able to guide you through the process from initial idea to pilot deployment. We are knowledgeable and proactive partners in applied research and innovation who are engaged in the development of the modern energy sector also on the European level, in the framework of European research projects and international energy agency expert groups.

Join us in the energy transformation and shape modern energy with us - decentralised, digital and flexible.

MAIN TEAM ACTIVITIES

  • Interaction between buildings and the energy network: Improving electrical and thermal interconnection by predicting
consumption and production and optimizing operations based on dynamic pricing.
  • Building flexibility aggregation: Development of tools for building flexibility activation and validation based on data analysis.
  • Community energy: Consultation and technical readiness assessment for community energy storage solutions such as batteries,
    water storage and hydrogen storage.
  • Environmental impact assessment: Analyzing the environmental impacts of integrating photovoltaics, heat pumps,
    electromobility and other elements.
  • New business models and legislation: Developing business models and consulting on legislation supporting flexible
    and decentralised energy systems.
